The Olive & June Winter 2023 Collection is here!!!!! I am SO excited about this collection and I can’t wait to share all of my thoughts with you about these polishes so let’s get right into it! I’m going to be talking about each color, what it was like to paint it, comparisons and my overall thoughts!
Have you heard about my favorite hack for wearing all of my regular polishes while keeping my nails protected and helping them grow longer? Plus my nails are never stained from regular polish, I don’t have ridges, and my nails never peel?? The secret is *clear builder gel*!
I wear a thin layer of clear builder gel under my nails most days to give my nails are super smooth, plump surface. It gives my nails so much strength so they can grow out without being bendy, I truly can hit them on anything and they won’t break, and they’re never stained from regular polish. It’s THE BEST! First off, this collection is the Wrap It Up collection and all of the colors are inspired by wrapping your gifts in beautiful bows (i think lol). It has 7 new polish colors, and 2 are limited edition. Some of them are slightly similar to existing colors, and there are some that are totally unique!! Let’s get into it!
To Me, You Are Perfect
Color Description: Burgundy Shimmer
How It Paints: It’s slightly sheer upon first coat, so the second coat is necessary to make it opaque. I love how it has the sheer quality to it so it doesn’t look black on the nail, but a really pretty deep redish purple, like a really jammy glass of wine with some glowy golden shimmer in it!
Similar Colors: Velvet Pouf (Winter 2021), Enchanted (Quick Dry)
Last Minute Shopping
Color Description: Deep Charcoal
How It Paints: It has an almost chalky kind of sheer consistency, so it’s a little sheer and streaky on the first coat. With the second coat, it’s fully opaque and so shiny! I’m not usually a dark grey person, but I think this one has a cool nuance with the charcoal in it!
Similar Colors: I couldn’t really find any that were super similar to this one other than EM but this one is definitely not as true black! Mayyyybe 100% Chance, but that is much more of a true grey. The color It’s Actually Dark Green is slightly similar in the sense that it’s dark and almost looks black but, as the name states, it has a green tint!
One For You, Two For Me
Color Description: Dark Emerald
How It Paints: A true emerald-y green that’s fully opaque in two coats. This one isn’t so dark that you can’t tell that it’s green, it’s like a true christmas tree green and I love it!!!
Similar Colors: It’s Actually Dark Green except it’s definitely easier to tell that this one is actually green, Into The Trees is a bit more teal than this one but also a little similar!
Biggest Bow
Color Description: Hot Pink
How It Paints: Very easy to work with! It’s almost opaque with one coat, so two coats just makes it look extra bright and shiny. I love it!
Similar Colors: It reminds me of combo of Nailfie Time and XOXO, two of my favorites from winter 2020 (suuuchhh a good collection, truly one of my favorites!)
Candy Dipped
Color Description: Jelly Bright Red
How It Paints: This is my favorite one from the collection by far! It’s so unique and there’s nothing like a gorgeous jelly in my opinion! I can’t wait to use this and make a jelly sandwich with some glitter in between. This one is very jelly, so doing 2-3 coats will make it not quite as see-through and much more red.
Similar Colors: ES and Lava are similar in tone, but they are opaque. There is no true dupe for this color!
Presents Are My Olive You
Color Description: Light Bubblegum Pink Shimmer
How It Paints: This polish is a sheer light peachy pink with flakey silvery shimmer added. I think it looks pretty as a really sheer polish with one coat, but when you add a second, the pink really comes through!
Similar Colors: This one is pretty unique for O&J, especially with the shimmer added! I think it’s probably most similar to Nuance from the Quick Dry Collection or maybe SCL (but add shimmer!)
Office Party
Color Description: Milky Opal Sheer
How It Paints: This one is really easy to paint with because it’s so sheer! It looks nice with one coat, but becomes more white/snowy looking with two. I think it would be fun to layer on top of other colors for a shimmery milky mani, especially another jelly color like on top of Strawberry Scone?! I need to try it!
Similar Colors: This one is also pretty unique for the brand. I think of it as if Stellar and BEB had a baby. However, Stellar is more of an opaque white, and Office Party is a bit of a brighter white than BEB, so it’s definitely not going to seem like a dupe if you pick this one up!
