Olive & June Summer 2023: Postcard From Paradiso Review, Swatches & Comparisons

Olive & June Spring just released their Summer 2023 Collection. The theme is Postcard from Paradiso and it features six new bright, Italian summer inspired shades. I’m here to share my swatches and review of the new collection! The colors are so fun and I’m going to be talking about each color, what it was like to paint it, comparisons and my overall thoughts!

TWO QUICK NOTES!

MY GEL + REGULAR POLISH HACK!

Have you heard about my favorite hack for wearing all of my regular polishes while keeping my nails protected and helping them grow longer? Plus my nails are never stained from regular polish, I don’t have ridges, and my nails never peel?? The secret is *clear builder gel*!

I wear a thin layer of clear builder gel under my nails most days to give my nails are super smooth, plump surface. It gives my nails so much strength so they can grow out without being bendy, I truly can hit them on anything and they won’t break, and they’re never stained from regular polish. It’s THE BEST! Here are some links if you’re interested in learning more:

My FAVE Clear Builder Base – It’s so shiny and makes my nails SO strong

My NEW Gel Manicure 1.0 Masterclass Tutorial Course – If you’re new to gel manicures or can’t seem to perfect your at-home process, you NEED to watch this.

My Builder Gel Application Course – My exact process for applying builder gel. It’s so much easier than you think. Once you watch this, you’ll be a pro in no time!

My NEW Dry Manicure Prep Course – Prep is KEY for making your manicures last. This is my brand new Dry Manicure course where I go into detail on how to prep your nail surface, how I do my cuticle care + nip my cuticles, and how I shape my nails. This works for both regular and gel manicures!

Read more about this process here!! I wrote an entire dedicated post to my exact process that details exactly how it’s done :)

POSTCARD FROM PARADISO

Check out my swatch video HERE to see how these colors paint!

This collection has six brand new polishes in it! Five bright colors and one sheer/shimmer. One thing that really sets this collection apart compared to their other colors/similar colors is that they have a jelly/slightly sheer quality to them that gives them a really interesting and almost true gel-like finish! I really love jellies so you know I love how these colors all turned out! Let’s get into them!

SWATCHES:

HOW DO YOU SPELL BOUGAINVILLEA?

This is a hot magenta, purple-leaning pink jelly polish. It’s really hard to pick favorites here but I LOVE this one. It’s so gorgeous and bright and so easy to paint. I really like how this has a jelly finish vs a creamy finish. I think it makes it even easier to paint and it looks really great in 2 or 3 coats.

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Medium!!

Comparisons: This Lettuce Is Radicchio, TLG, Wild Orchid

I compared this polish to some other magenta/orchid purple polishes. It’s not quite as purple as TLIR, but it has a similar jelly quality. TLG and Wild Orchid are both similar hues, but have a more creamy/opaque finish than HDYSB!

HOUSE OF O&J:

House of O&J is a regal deep purple polish. This one has more of a deep blue undertone vs HDYSB which is way more of pink. This one also has a jelly quality to it which I love when polishes are darker because it makes the final product much lighter than it would be if it was an opaque. I love how this one turned out!

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Medium!!

Comparisons: Can’t Lose, Blue Canoe, CNH

I compared this polish to some of the purpley blues in O&J’s collection. I think it’s definitely more purple leaning than these ones, but they have similar bright cool blue qualities to them too! It might also be similar to Royal from the New Quick Dry Collection but the jelly finish and the cool hue make it truly unique in my opinion with no real dupe!

NOT A CLOUD:

This is described a sky blue nail polish. I think what really sets this apart from other light blues/sky blues in O&J’s collection is *shocker* that it has a jelly finish! It’s also really saturated which gives it a brighter payoff. I love this one!

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Medium!!

Comparisons: Boost, Yes Please, Megababe Blue

Boost and Megababe Blue are definitely other sky blue types of polishes, however they are very creamy and lighter than Not A Cloud. Yes Please is more teal leaning, but has a similar medium hue!

BOCCE BALL:

This is a fresh grassy green polish! I love this polish because it’s such a unique color and it really gives off a fresh, fun grassy jelly finish! I think it’s really a stand alone in the O&J greens collection because it’s a medium green, but it’s so much brighter/lighter than any other similar shades.

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Medium!!

Comparisons: Green Canteen, Geometry, Lime Fizz

I don’t really think any of these colors are super similar/dupes like I said however they are similar medium greens. Lime Fizz is definitely more of a neon green, while the other two are more blue leaning/creamy finishes.

FLOWER POT:

This is a burnt orange terracotta polish! I feel like everyone has been begging for a burnt orange and I really love how this one was executed!! Since it has a jelly finish, it looks so fresh and warm/bright compared to Southwest, for example, which is more of a creamy finish and looks cooler and better for fall. I think this polish will be great for fall, but the brightness makes it so fun for summer too!

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Medium!!

Comparisons: Southwest, You’re a 10, Glow

The closest similar polish is definitely Southwest, but like I said it’s a bit cooler than Flower Pot. You’re a 10 and Glow are not extremely similar except that they’re medium/light oranges. This one is definitely unique and worth picking up! :)

STARSHOWER:

This is a clear rose gold shimmery/glitter polish! This is essentially Cosmic but with rose gold shimmer pieces instead of white/silvery ones! It’s gorgeous and will be such a pretty shimmery topper. You know I love a chrome/shimmer topper these days and I’m super excited to use this one!

Coats: 2 coats

Difficulty to paint: Easy!!

Comparisons: Cosmic

HOUSE OF O&J

HOW DO YOU SPELL BOUGAINVILLEA?

MY OVERALL THOUGHTS:

It’s so hard to choose a favorite!! I think I gravitate toward brights/unique hues in general, so I love How Do You Spell Bougainvillea? And Bocce Ball probably, but I also love Flower Pot and Not A Cloud. They’re seriously all so good! If I were you, I would probably just get the entire collection because they’re so unique and will be sooo fun for nail art and summer mani’s/pedi’s!
