Top 5 Picks For Getting Started With Kokoist:
1A. Education!!!!
My courses are 20% off this week in conjunction with the Kokoist sale! I would recommend watching these before using Kokoist or any gel products tbh because there is a learning curve and it’s super important to use these products safely for you and your nail’s health! My courses use Kokoist products too, so you can buy what you need & learn EXACTLY how to safely use them while watching!
Basic Gel Manicure Course (great for anyone who is new to gel)
Advanced Gel Manicure Course (my exact builder gel fill + e-file process!)
Use code FOURTH for 20% off! 7/3 - 7/6 only!
1. Ultra Glossy Non-Wipe Top Coat
My favorite, most used top coat ever! It’s non-wipe, scratch resistant, doesn’t dull, encapsulated your nails beautifully. It’s the BEST! I use this every single time I do my nails and even use it with other brands.
2. Megastick Base
A soft super sticky adhesive base. If you struggle with lifting, this is your savior!!! I use it under most of my manicures for extra insurance and also I like to wear it under tinted bases to make filling them even easier! I explain that more in my Advanced Gel Manicure Course!
3. Platinum Filler Base
A clear builder gel with a base built in. I like to pair it with Mega Stick Base to ensure that it doesn’t lift! It’s a bit thicker than Nail Thoughts Tinted Builders, great for medium/longer nails because the strength is UNMATCHED! It’s also HEMA free, formulated with nano-colloids for an antibacterial effect, and it’s literally meant to be filled and stay on your nails for long periods of time while keeping them healthy!
4. Gel Lamps
Kokoist makes the best lamps on the market and these sales are the only time they will be discounted!! Plus, if you’re committing to using Kokoist & Nail Thoughts products, using a Kokoist lamp is going to guarantee that your gels are fully cured which is SAFE and they will last longer on yours or your client’s nails too! They have two great options: the LeBlanc (the one I have) and the Hybrid Infinity lamp! I’ll explain more about the differences below in the Q&A!
5. Nail Thoughts Tinted Builder Base
3-in-1 tinted builder gels with base built in! I love using these because they make your manicures a little faster since it’s three products in one! I also like to pair these with Mega Stick Base (even though they already have a base in them), because it makes doing fills easier and it helps prevent lifting!
You really can’t go wrong with which colors you get but I have a few current favorites: Rose Water Base, Baby Cakes Base, Honey Tea Base, Sweet Tea Base (this is a top contender for my wedding nails!!!), Strawberry Lemonade Base, to name a few! There are over 30 colors to choose from too if none of these pique your interest. Check out THIS BLOG POST for photos of every base and more info!
Top 5 Fun Summer Items!!!
1. Jelly Top Top Coat
This is a thicker, non-wipe, non-yellowing, scratch resistant, non-dulling top coat! What a mouthful!!! Ok but this is such a fun product because 3D nails are sooo cool right now and you can achieve them with this! It’s thick enough that it won’t completely flatten and you can get really creative with it. Also it’s great for isolated chrome or all over chrome or even just a harder top coat! The options are endless!
I used it recently to make the petals of these flowers on my nails 3D!
2. Nail Thoughts Across Japan Magnet Gel
This is the newest color gel launch from Nail Thoughts and I’m still so excited about it and can’t wait to use more colors! It’s 12 pastel jelly rainbow magnet gel polishes that have really really fine particles in it so it leaves your nails with a really pretty silky reflective effect and the color is pretty subtle! I wore Tokyo Tower for my engagement photos and loved them. I’m especially excited to try Mt. Fuji View and Osaka Market!
I swatched all of the colors in this video here if you’d like to see!
3. Nail Thoughts Glistening Flash Top Coat
I fell in love with flash glitter last year!!! Nail Thoughts came out with a line of jelly colors with flash glitter that I also love and recommend highly! But I also love love love this Glistening Flash Top Coat because you can obviously wear it over any color and it turns it into a super flashy gorgeous shimmering masterpiece!! The glitter is even more reflective than normal glitter so it shimmers and shines more too. It looks amazing under bright lights but also in sunshine!
4. Fruit Water Nails
If you haven’t noticed, I don’t really like opaque colors on my nails. I’m pretty much always in a jelly or sheer color, I just love them so much! They’re easier to paint and I think they make your nails look like little jelly beans. Anyways, I saw that Fruit Water Nails are trending and I was like this trend was *made for me*. I need to dedicate an entire post and swatch video to favorites that fit this description soon, but it’s essentially jelly colors that are the color of fruits. Here are some polishes that I think would be amazing for this type of look:
NT Juicy Base (jelly lavender)
NT Blueberry Milk Base (jelly light blue)
NT Cotton Candy Base (jelly medium pink - I think this one is so underrated!!!)
NT Strawberry Lemonade (jelly bright hot pink)
NT Sweet Tea Base (jelly salmon pink)
NT Rose Water Base - this name is perfect!!! (jelly sheer baby pink)
NT Cashmere Cardigan or NT Cantaloupe Base (jelly coral orange)
NT Berry Base (jelly berry purple)
Ok I could go on forever but these are a good start!!!
5. Kokoist Nail Oil
This is the best cuticle oil I’ve ever tried!! And I’ve tried ALOT! It’s soooo silky and thick and smells divine! I love the jasmine one but it also comes in white tea and freesia!! I use this at the end of every manicure and in between to keep my nails looking beautiful. I’m begging them to make a travel size one because I wish I could take it everywhere!
Top 5 Questions & Answers From YOU!!!
1. Best Nail Thoughts Colors for one coat coverage?
The best thing about Japanese gel is the amazing color coverage so you’re in luck!! If you want an opaque look in one coat, you need to be sure you’re using a truly opaque color - it sounds obvious but if you use a slightly sheer color, you’d need multiple coats to make it look opaque is my point ;)
The Volume 2 Collection has mostly opaque colors - I really love these for nail art too because you only need a little bit of polish and can keep you design really thin! I really love Butterfly Clips and No Yeah!
The Kokoist Potted Gels are also literally made for one coat coverage! They are really thick and sooo pigmented, so that might be a good option too!
2. Is there a chrome that isn’t too silvery?
Platinum Veil Powder is exactly what you’re looking for! It’s silvery but sheer enough that you can still see the color underneath. A subtle platinum :)
3. What is the difference between the two lamps?
They essentially will cure and work the exact same. The main difference is that the LeBlanc lamp is cordless and the Infinity Lamp is corded. The Le Blanc lamp also has a low heat mode where the light flashes to prevent heat spikes. You can’t go wrong! And if you are just sitting at the same desk whenever you do your nails and you don’t mind the cord, the Infinity Lamp is great! I would suggest getting the UV/LED lamp for either because it will cure essentially any gel ever.
4. What colors do you recommend for a first purchase for a variety of manicures?
The Nail Thoughts Volume 1 collection was literally made for this reason! It has all of the best basic colors that you might want for popular manicures. Katie literally created it based on the most popular requests at her own salon!! It has a white, black, milky white, red, baby pink, neutral tan, lavender, baby blue, sheer pink, etc. There are 18 colors, so you could choose from there and pick a few you like! I also marked down the 8 colors I’d recommend starting with on Part 5 of my Back To Basics spreadsheet here!
5. Favorite Pink Magnet Gel
Strawberry Water (light pink) or Beets Water (dark pink) or Tokyo Tower (sheer jelly pink)
