HOW TO DO SOAP NAILS! 🫧🧼🧴

Welcome back to my series, On My Nails This Week, where I talk about what’s on my nails this week ;) I’ve actually had this manicure on my list of ones to try for ages and the time finally came and I don’t know why I waited so long!!!

Ok so for this week, I did Soap Nails which is basically just a new trendy name for sheer, super shiny, neutral nails. Nothing new obviously, but still fun to lean into. And it gave me a great excuse to try a new(ish) tinted builder base I hadn't used yet: Nail Thoughts Rose Water Base! It’s a 3-in-1 (base, builder & color), and it’s a sheer jelly baby pink! If you like Strawberry Milk Base, but wish it was a little bit more sheer, this one is exactly that!

How To Nail This Look:

  1. Pick a sheer, neutral color. I think “syrup gels” are the way to go here because they have a really unique, jelly-like, sheer, but also not too sheer finish. (Ps- Should I do another post about my favorite syrup gels??)

Here some of my favorite polishes that I think would work perfectly for this look:

Nail Thoughts Rose Water Base (what I used!)

Nail Thoughts Honey Tea Base (essentially what Rose Water is, but syrupy brown/tan)

Nail Thoughts Milky Base (a sheer, milky white builder base!)

Doi Aube Syrup Builder #2 (sheer, syrupy warm pinky color)

Olive & June The Queen Takes Her Tea With Milk (a syrupy taupe regular polish)

Olive & June Strawberry Scone (a syrupy sheer baby pink regular polish)

  2. Prep your nails really thoroughly & remove cuticle and hangnails. A really thorough manicure will help this look extra “clean”! And it also helps for the next step! If you want to learn my exact prep routine with my e-file (for the most precise cuticle work ever!), make sure to watch my E-File Basics Class on my website! It goes over how to safely use the e-file for cuticle work + prep the nails for long lasting gel manicures.

  3. Tuck in your polish!!! This is a painting technique where you use a liner brush to get the polish super super close to your skin (without touching) so that your manicure looks newer/fresher for longer! Basically you’re ensuring there isn’t a “grown out” look after just a few days. And this is where #2 helps A LOT because if there isn’t any cuticle and/or hangnails, it’s so much easier to get your polish close to your skin and keep everything clean! (Also just to note: you can’t really do this with regular polish because it dries too fast.)

And - This is the liner brush I used!

Tucking in the polish!
  1. Bonus: Add a subtle french tip! I did a skinny french tip with a baby pink sparkly polish (Nail Thoughts Pink Sand) and I lovedddd it! I think the sparkle and color/tone of the polish just worked so perfectly with Rose Water Base, it wasn’t too stark and it almost looks barely there! I also highly recommend using an angled brush to do french tips, they make it SO easy.

  2. Use a SHINY top coat! You already know my favorite is the Kokoist Ultra Glossy Non Wipe Top Coat! It just keeps your nails sooo shiny and scratch free and really makes your nails look soapy and reflective which is perfect for this mani. If you’re doing regular polish, my favorite shiny one is Olive & June Super Glossy Top Coat! It’s very plumping and shiny for a regular top coat and it actually looks really similar to gel!
